Making an annual investment in accredited training is the best way to ensure your business sustains and improves on it's B-BEE scorecard.

Skills Development is one of the priority elements on the newly revised generic BEE scorecard. You are eligible for this points when you invest in training within your business. This could be accredited or non-credit bearing. However, accredited training of specific demographic groups counts the most towards your skills development points on your B-BEE scorecard. 

A learnership is a work-based learning programme that leads to a nationally recognised qualification that is directly related to an occupation,for example an accountant, construction worker, health care worker, IT technician or motor mechanic. Learnerships combine a structured learning component with practical work experience that is acquired while being employed in a company, government department or small business. Learners in learnerships have to attend classes at a college or training centre to complete the classroom-based learning, and they also have to complete on-the-job training in a workplace. 

Skills Development is one of the priority elements on the newly revised generic BEE scorecard.

20 Points are available in total with 5 bonus points for employing black learners after completion of the learnership. You could earn 13 points for hosting and employing unemployed, black learners on a learnership and the cost of learnerships will also be added to total training spent, which equals more points available. This also now includes 4 points for training black, disabled employees.

Yes, learners are paid a stipend for the duration of the learnership to covers expenses such as travelling and meals.

 

The stipend amount that is paid depends on the SETA, the type of learnership and the NQF level. 

Learnerships are typically funded by a relevant SETA through grants awarded to an employer. The employer uses this grant to cover the cost of the learnership.

 

Employers can also offer self-funded learnerships. In such cases all training costs (including stipends) are covered by the employer.
